An Eastern Equatoria State legislator revealed that his life was under threat for intervening against a police operation of stripping Buya women naked in Budi County for dressing traditionally.

MP Angelo Lonoi Joseph told CRN on Friday in Juba that police organized a joint operation to strip naked Buya women dressed in traditional skirts to end the dressing style.

He disclosed that his life is under threat because he intervened to stop the police operation targeting Buya women in traditional dresses.

MP Lonoi said he continued to oppose the police operation despite of threats against his life.

He pointed out that the act was against humanity, terming it abuse of culture and women by undressing them by force in public.

MP Lonoi said if it was a form of cultural transformation it was not done rightly.

Budi County Commissioner Morris Kaunda dismissed the report as a lie.

He said MP Lonoi was interfering in a neighboring constituency.

The Commissioner argued that no woman was undressed before men.

Commissioner Kaunda added that the Buya women dressing style was out of fashion they were warned against it in 2012, but they backslid in late 2013, causing suspicion that they were instigated by leaders.

MP Angelo disclosed that he was compiling a court case for life threats and assassination attempts.
