National Health Ministry conducts malaria survey

A health team from the national government is conducting a 27-day malaria indicator survey in Eastern Equatoria State.
 
State Director General in the Health Ministry Elijo Omoro Tahir said the team comprises of a clinical officer, a nurse and a Bureau of Statistics officer, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
He added that the survey aimed at establishing malaria prevalence, mosquito net distribution coverage and attitudes of people towards the disease in Eastern Equatoria.
 
The Director General said some people attributed malaria to witchcraft.
 
Dr Tahir said the survey would help the health ministry in proper planning and laying strategies to curb diseases.
 
He added that the data enabled the ministry to understand the kind of morbidity and mortality malaria causes especially on children.
 
Dr Tahir said the surveyors will test the level of anemia on children during the exercise.
 
The malaria indicator survey is carried at selected payams in the eight counties of Eastern Equatoria state.
