Kakwa community on Wednesday started a three-day conference in Yei River County under the theme ‘Restoration of Kakwa cultural values.’

Organizing committee chairperson Paul Yoane Bonju, who is also Member of Parliament at national level, said the conference aimed at restoring cultural values and cementing unity among Kakwa people, Easter Radio reported.

MP Bonju quoted the Transitional Constitution that allows communities to engage in developing their respective cultures.

He said the conference aimed to develop the Kakwa cultures and not to break down the administrative set ups.

South Sudan Kakwa community chairperson Thomas Wani said it was important to teach young people their cultures.

Mr Wani revealed plans to open centres for teaching Bari language and bringing in Kakwa books.

The three-day conference that brought together Kakwa people from Morobo, Lainya, and Yei River counties concludes on Friday.
