UNMISS calls on WBG to base services delivery on data collection

United Nations in South Sudan or UNMISS told Western Bahr El Ghazal government to direct services based on Geographic Information System or GIS data collection.
 
Talking on Tuesday during a one-day workshop on GIS and Global Positioning System, UNMISS GIS officer Akbar Amini said there is need for the state government to establish a data centre to enable different ministries to share information, Voice of Hope reported.
 
He said through the GIS data system government will be able to direct services to the right locations.
 
The officer called for a working group for basic GIS data collection.
 
Mr Amini said since UNMISS GIS office was established in Wau and there were requests from different ministries about training their staffs on GIS technology.
 
He said UNMISS was ready to offer any technical support for the establishment of the GIS centre in Western Bahr El Ghazal state.
 
Participants lamented on lack of GIS and GPS reading material which are instrumental in carrying out the exercise.
 
The workshop organized by UNMISS GIS Unit drew 18 technocrats from all state ministries.
