South Sudan’s population should stand at 11.7 million, the UN estimates.
 
UN Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan Toby Lanzer told the press on Tuesday that in the 2008 Census South Sudan had 8.3 million inhabitants.
 
He said that 1.9 million people returned to South Sudan since the national headcount.
 
Mr Lanzer added that the population grows 2.5 percent per year, which should represent an additional 1.5 million people since 2008. 
 
He said that all added the population of South Sudan is estimated to be at 11.7 million.
