Final examinations affected a three-week in-service training of 216 teachers in Western Equatoria State.

The teachers left the training before completing and went to prepare their pupils for exams, Anisa Radio reported.

The teachers complained that they wanted to prepare their pupils to perform better because the state government warned to dismiss them if the pupils performed poorly.

ECS Education Program Manager Lubari Stephen Elioba met the state Education minister to discuss the teachers training.

Minister Pia Philip Michael said the government has a policy to train teachers during holidays.

He added that the government cannot dismiss employed teachers because there is no money to employ new teachers and compensate the outgoing ones.

ECS in collaboration with the South Sudan Teacher’s Education program offered the in-service teachers’ training in Maridi, Yambio and Tombura.
