Five presenters working at Lakes State government radio on Thursday filed a case at Rumbek Central Police saying their lives were under threat after they signed a letter asking for overtime incentives.
Mabor Riak told CRN that he narrowly escaped death on Sunday when a car without number plates tried to hit him.
The presenter said he managed to dodge the car hiding behind a tree.
Peter Machuei said he also narrowly escaped being overrun by an unmarked pickup on Wednesday evening.
Lakes State Information Minister Dut Makoi Kuok confirmed to CRN over a telephone interview that he got a letter asking for incentives from 2007.
He added that he did not have the money to meet the staff’s requests.
Asked if the state security operatives were targeting the presenters, Minister Makoi denied.
He said the request was still on his table to be processed and security had nothing to do with it.
27 presenters working at Rumbek 98FM signed a letter asking Minister Makoi to consider giving incentives to staff working until 11 PM.
The letter was delivered on October 22.
