The international community is pressing the CPA partners to conduct the referenda on self-determination for Southern Sudan and Abyei in time and to implement others pending aspects of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Representatives from the United Nations, African Union, Igad countries and special envoys to the Sudan met in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, with NCP and SPLM delegations on a consultative conference on Sudan.

SPLM secretary-general, Pagan AMum, arrived this morning at Juba International Airport. He told the press that the international community wants the referenda to be held until January 9, 2011.

Mr. Amum added that the participants on the Sudan Conference called on the parties to respect the choice of the people expressed in the referenda.

Mr. Amum called on the NCP to establish the referenda commissions immediately to keep the peace in the country.

He added the referendum cannot be delayed beyond January 9, 2011.

The SPLM secretary-general said his delegation had bilateral meetings with representatives from different countries to assure their assistance for the post-referendum arrangements with the North.
