The national information minister ordered journalists to re-register with the ministry after a website reported that the President of the Republic went to South Africa for treatment.

Sudan Tribune website reported on Sunday that Salva Kiir Mayardit travelled to South Africa during the weekend suffering from exhaustion.

Minister Michael Makuei Lueth told the press Wednesday morning in Juba that the news about President Kiir’s trip to South Africa was false.

He added that President Kiir left Juba on Saturday for Nairobi on a private visit and returned on Monday afternoon.

Mr Makuei told the Director General for Information that journalists should submit their qualification and credentials and re-register in order to practice their trade.

The minister lectured journalists on the dos and don’ts of their profession and threatened to take action if they abused freedom of expression.

Mr Makei said ‘freedom is not recklessness.’

He added that the ministry manages the media sector until the Media Authority is set up.

The information minister ordered all media houses to register in order to operate legally.

Mr Makuei said there were over a dozen of printing presses operating illegally in Juba.

He ordered all printing presses to register and pay their taxes.
