Unity State governor-elect said the state is not benefitting from its oil riches, but things are changing.

Taban Deng arrived today in Juba to take part in a SPLM two-day workshop on government policy framework.

During a press conference at Juba International Airport, SCR News reporter asked Mr. Deng to assess the oil production in the state.

He answered the sector faces many ecological problems, young people are not getting jobs and the state does not benefit from its oil reserves.

The elect-governor said it was important to involve local youth in the extraction of oil to protect the environment and give them jobs.

He lamented that Jenpok oilfield is run by foreigners alone.

Mr. Deng thanked GoSS Minister for Energy and Mining for employing a geologist from Unity State in the Tharjath oilfield as operations vice-president.

He added that now the state is batter placed to promote training and employment of the youth in the oil production sector.
