Japan donates 300 thousand dollars to Constitution Review

The Government of Japan approved a donation of 300 thousand US Dollars to support the constitutional review process in South Sudan.
 
Japan-UNDP Partnership Fund will assist activities of South Sudan’s National Constitutional Review Commission in public consultations, especially with women, and supporting media strategies to strengthen public participation.
 
Japan’s Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nobuo Kishi, presented the funding decision to the UN Special Representative Hilde F. Johnson during her recent visit to Japan.
 
Ms Johnson said the assistance was meaningful to support the Constitution making process.
 
Japanese Ambassador to South Sudan Takeshi Akamatsu said: ‘We are pleased to support this important exercise which will contribute to the further promotion of democracy, good governance and rule of law in South Sudan.”
 
UNDP Country Director Bal√°zs Horv√°th said the fund would strengthen democracy at the grassroots level and enhance the credibility of democracy in South Sudan.
