Yei Department of Gender and Social Development prepared the World Human Rights Day celebrations and its budget in collaboration with its Gender Based Violence Working Group and other organizations in the county.

Unia Ataya from the Department Gender and Social Development said Friday’s meeting was to enable partners to come up with the activities to carry on the 16 days of activism against gender based violence, Easter Radio reported.

Ms Ataya said the campaign starts on November 25 and concludes on December 10 with the celebration of Human Rights Day.

She said the 16-day period would launch a massive campaign around the world towards the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

The participants approved a budget of 22,765 South Sudanese pounds for the event.

The 16 days of activism against gender based violence and the human rights celebrations provide opportunities to local, national and international approaches against militarism as key structures that perpetuate violence.

The period also highlights other significant dates including International Women Human Rights Day on November 29, World Aids Day on December 1 and the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre on December 6.
