Western Bahr El-Ghazal State Legislative Assembly approved the Council of Traditional Authority Leaders Bill with amendments based on Local Government Act 2009.

MPs unanimously passed the bill empowering traditional leaders to take part in the decision making process on matters of community interest, Voice of Hope reported.

State Acting Speaker Paulino Pinyi Akol said the bill would act as a tool to guide traditional leaders to present proposal to the state government on customs, peaceful co-existence and welfare of communities.

He instructed the Council of Traditional Authority to elect its executive body at state and national level.

The Council will prevent and resolve local conflicts by applying peaceful mechanisms and mediation.
