An adviser to the Minister for Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development hailed the role played by civil service support officers from Uganda and Ethiopia in transforming service delivery in South Sudan.

John Itorong, who is also the Project Coordinator of the Republic of South Sudan/IGAD Capacity Enhancement Initiative, said the project was recognised worldwide as a big success in capacity building for the national fledgling civil service.

‘The project seeks to promote best practices in the civil service through the transfer of knowledge and skills,’ Mr Itorong said.

He added IGAD civil service support officers from Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia made a significant input by helping change the way of doing things in the civil service.

‘You have helped put in place systems, structures and initiated reforms to make our public service more efficient,’ he told the IGAD officials.

Mr Itorong was speaking in Juba at the beginning of a two-day exit workshop for 91 civil service support officers from Uganda and Ethiopia who will leave the country this Saturday after completing their two-year tour of duty.
