The Government of Sudan requested Interpol’s help to arrest in Egypt the head of a Darfur rebel group.

Justice Minister Abdel Bassit Sabdarat said he asked Interpol to arrest Khalil Ibrahim, the head of Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), wherever he is to face justice.

JEM downplayed Mr. Sabdarat’s announcement saying the statement was laughable and unrealistic.

A Khartoum special court accused Mr. Ibrahim of masterminding the attack by JEM rebels on Omdurman, the twin city of Khartoum, in 2008.

More than 220 people die in the clashes.

Security forces captured a large number of JEM rebels and so far special courts condemned 105 to death.
