A senior official at GoSS Ministry of Agriculture said the communities should be responsible and produce their own food.
John Chuol Dho, Director General for Agricultural Production, told SCR News that the government is not responsible to produce food for the communities across southern Sudan.Mr. Chuol explained that it is the communities in the region that are responsible for their own food.
He encouraged farmers to organize themselves in order to get loans to buy what they need to boost food production.
Mr. Chuol revealed that his ministry imported 300 tractors to distribute to farmers organized in associations.
He added that the Ministry also distributed seeds and fuel to help the farmers.
Mr. Chuol said the ministry is also encouraging banks to offer loans to farmers.
Mr. Chuol disclosed that the government is planning to open branches of the Agricultural Bank in all the states to help farmers with credit loans.
