Lakes State caretaker governor urged members of the community to overcome cultural shame associated with tuberculosis and come for a test in order to know their status.
Telar Ring Deng was speaking at Rumbek’s Freedom Square Saturday afternoon during the belated celebrations of World Tuberculosis Day, Good News Radio reported.Mr. Telar warned the community that delaying to test and treat TB leads to infecting other people.
He urged people to overcome the cultural shame associated with tuberculosis, explaining that the disease is cured.
Isaac Ajoung, a TB patient undergoing treatment, said it was not healthy to feel shame about TB.
Mr. Ajoung urged those with TB symptoms to go to a testing centre immediately or they risk dying.
Director General in Lakes Ministry of Health in Lakes, Dr. Acut Acut, spoke of the link between TB ahd HIV and Aids.
He urged the public, especially the young, to be careful about their sexual practices, avoiding premarital and multi-partner sex.
Mr. Acut also urged married people to be faithful to their partners.
Tuberculosis is considered the number one killer disease in Southern Sudan.
