Juba’s streets are almost deserted and patrolled by traffic police and soldiers waiting for the visit of the President of Sudan.

Omar Hassan Al Bashir arrives this morning in Juba for a presidential summit with his counterpart Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Expecting the usual complications with excessive security, private and public vehicles stayed home.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the two presidents will discuss border crossing points and the situation of Abyei where Ngok Dinka residents decided to go ahead with a unilateral referendum on self-determination.

The African Union Peace and Security Council welcomed the presidential summit taking place in Juba on Tuesday ‘as part of the ongoing efforts to consolidate the progress made in the normalization of relations between the two countries.’
