Wau Catholic Diocese Justice and Peace Commission in coordination with UNMISS civil group on Saturday conducted a one-day workshop on good governance and democracy at St Daniel Comboni Parish in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal.
The workshop aimed at strengthening people’s ability on democracy and good governance to promote a spirit of unity and understanding among different tribes, Voice of Hope reported.
Justice and Peace program officer Stephen Robo Musa said the workshop was also to raise community awareness on democracy and good governance in the country.
He said it was important for the local people to know about things happening in their societies as far as government was concern.
Mr Robo called on the civil society and the political parties to join hands with the government and build the nation through mutual understanding.
He said all should play a vital role for effective service delivery.
The officer urged politicians not to use young people as tools when playing for political positions.
He acknowledged the role of the government in helping people through delivering of basic services.
Mr Robo said democracy and fair governance bring long lasting peace.
The workshop was attended by 50 participants including civil society groups, political parties and lay Christians.
