The Health Secretariat in Nuba Mountains reported that more than 200 people died of malaria this year.

Health Secretary Joseph Stephanous declared an outbreak of Malaria in the region.

He told Voice of Peace that various clinics in the area reported over 200 deaths from malaria.

Mr Stephanous said children and the elderly were the most vulnerable groups to malaria.

He lamented that many people died in villages without assistance.

The Health Secretary explained that the international community was supposed to pressurize the Khartoum government to allow humanitarian aid and health services in the Nuba Mountains.

Mr Stephanous said due to inadequate medical facilities, many expectant mothers face difficulties during delivery.

He added that eight children died of tetanus for lack of vaccination.

The Health Secretary urged midwives and nurses to use sterilized tools in their work.
