Sudan’s ruling party accused the Ngok Dinka of holding an unilateral referendum on self-determination defying African Union’s decisions.

NCP Mac Yak Kor, a former member of Abyei administration, accused Deng Alor to be behind the move.

He asked UNISFA, the United Nations force in Abyei, to “take the necessary steps to stop these negative moves’, Sudan Tribune website reported.

On Friday, the Ngok Dinka People’s General Conference held in Abyei declared ‘the intent to conduct as a community the Abyei Area Community Referendum in a fair and transparent manner.’

The General Conference nominated a Referendum Commission headed by Judge Monyluak Alor Kuol and a 24-member Abyei Referendum High Committee chaired by Deng Alor Kuol together with a secretariat.

CRN reporter in Abyei said on Monday over the phone that the registration for the referendum started on Sunday in 29 centres of five counties without incidents.

The community referendum should start on Saturday.
