Singer Christina Aguilera has joined a chorus of celebrities who lend their voices to fight global hunger as ambassadors for the United Nations World Food Programme.

WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran said Ms. Aguilera’s passion and dedication to hungry children runs deep and the American singer will be a wonderful champion in the fight against hunger.

Ms. Aguilera travelled to Guatemala last year to see WFP’s maternal and child health programmes.

In January, the five-time Grammy winner performed in MTV’s ‘Hope for Haiti’ programme that raised more than 60 million US Dollars for disaster relief in the earthquake-hit Caribbean country.

Ms. Aguilera revealed her appointment as an Ambassador against Hunger for WFP during an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday.

She said a child dies every six seconds of hunger and this was too much for her to bear.

Ms. Aguilera joins footballer Ronaldinho, actress Pen√Ö¬Ωlope Cruz, basketball star Dikembe Mutombo and actor Sir Sean Connery among a huge basket of the famous that support WFP.
