The Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD meeting in Kampala on Karamoja Cluster concluded that development of social, economic infrastructure reduces conflicts among pastoralists.

Foreign Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press on Thursday in Juba upon his arrival from the IGAD Cluster meeting that Uganda transformed lives of pastoralists tremendously through boarding schools in Karamoja.

He explained that there are over 24 boarding schools and over 200 primary schools crowded with Karamoja children.

Dr Marial added that South Sudan and other countries should emulate Uganda to reduce violence among pastoralist communities.

The minister pointed out that the meeting brought the idea of enhancing development in pastoral areas.

He said disarmament, livestock development, peace, security and containment of cattle rustling made a lot of impact in Uganda.

Dr Marial said the government would use Uganda experience to benefit pastoralists’ community in South Sudan.
