UN Women conducted a one-day strategic note validation training workshop on Thursday to empower women to stand for their rights at all levels in the country.

UN Women Country Director Izeduwa Derex-Briggs said they are focussing on three key areas including increasing women participation in governance and leadership, economic empowerment, peace and security, Bakhita Radio reported.

She said they will engage boys, girls and men from various communities.

Ms Derex-Briggs said they needed to ensure that women speak for themselves and achieve zero tolerance to violence.

The Country Director said UN Women also wanted to see that gender was placed on the top of the agenda and women are wealthy.

The Undersecretary in the ministry of Gender, Child Social Welfare Esther Ikere Eluzai said the programme could benefit women at grassroots levels.

UN Women programme operates in Greater Equatoria, Greater Bahr El Ghazal and Jonglei states.
