Lake State authorities gave seven days to local chiefs and payam administrators in Rumbek Central County to collect illegal guns and hand them over to the government.

Speaking during a handing over ceremony, Deputy Governor Mabor Achol said the state government will not send the armed forces to disarm civilians.

He warned local chiefs against playing with government orders because the collected 24 guns cannot kill 200 people.

Mr Achol gave the local chiefs and administrators seven days to collect illegal weapons in their areas.

Rumbek Central County Commissioner Abraham Meen Kouce told the chiefs that the collection of guns in the area was not properly implemented.

He revealed that Rumbek Central County was leading with illegal arms.

The Commissioner said State authorities would not give up until all illegal weapons were collected.

Local chiefs of the five payams in Rumbek Central County on Thursday handed over 24 AK47 riffles to authorities.
