Rift Valley Fever reported in Eastern Equatoria, Upper Nile

An outbreak of rift valley fever disease was reported in Eastern Equatoria and Upper Nile state.
 
Aluma Araba, Director of Vector and Disease Control in the national Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Tourism, said this was the first time authorities reported an outbreak of rift valley fever disease. 
 
He added that the ministry is preparing an emergency response that requires allocation of more resources to fight what he termed a ‘serious disease.’
 
Rift Valley fever is a viral disease that affects both animals and humans.
 
It spreads primarily by mosquitoes but can also be transmitted by raw milk or meat not well cooked from contaminated animals.
