Finance ministry urges reforms on non oil revenue collection

The national deputy minister for finance urged the authorities of the country to work hard in raising non oil revenue.
 
Mary Jervas Yak said with the increase of the 2013-2014 budget from 17.3 to 18.6 billion South Sudanese Pounds the country needed to collect more non oil revenue, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
She said in the last fiscal year there was a significant improvement in non oil revenue collection from 2.42 million to 6.6 million pounds per month.
 
The deputy minister added that her ministry together with other units has to work hard to improve the collection.
 
Ms Jervas said the overall objective for non oil revenue collection is to boost social services and generate economic growth in the country.
 
She said the Council of Ministers proposed a budget of 17.3 billion pounds, but the Committee for Economy in the national parliament increased the budget to 18.6 billion pounds.
 
The deputy minister added that the budget will be financed with a combination of oil revenue, non oil revenue, loans and support from donors.
 
Ms Jervas said non oil revenue collection has many loopholes and not all the money collected reaches the Ministry of Finance.
 
The National Legislature on Saturday in an extraordinary sitting passed the 2013-2014 budget together with the Appropriation Bill controlling revenue and expenditure from the consolidated fund.
