Human Rights Commission supports Death Penalty

South Sudan Human Rights Commission chairperson on Thursday in a public debate supported maintaining Death Penalty in the country until people fully understand human rights.
 
Lawrence Korbandy said the Commission does not support abolition of Death Penalty as lobbied for by South Sudan Law Society.
 
He explained that people should first understand human lives and values, adding that disarmament should be done first.
 
The cahirperson reiterated that murderers should face justice through Death Penalty.
 
Justice Korbandy said the Commission was planning to introduce human rights literature in primary and secondary schools to transform the young generation to qualify for abolition of Death Penalty.
 
Constitutional lawyer Richard K Mulla agreed with all panellists that execution of killers must continue in the country.
 
He observed that the presidential power to pardon murders was too much, terming it injustice.
 
Dr Mulla wondered why the President failed to sign the Death Penalty of murderers of a doctor in Yei and police officers in Yambio.
 
He pointed out lack of formality in addressing death sentence.
