Teachers call for salaries increment

Teachers in South Sudan today joined their colleagues in the World to mark Teachers’ Day.
 
In Eastern Equatoria state, the event is commemorated with an appeal to African government to consider better salary rates for teacher, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
Radio Emmanuel talked to some teachers in Torit town who expressed difficulties facing them in the teaching profession.
 
Dr John Garang Secondary School Science Teacher Komati Robert observed that nobody acknowledges the importance of teachers in the country.
 
He appealed to the national government to recognise teachers’ contribution towards the development of the country.
 
State Education Minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam disclosed that education budget did not change.
 
He said the stagnant budget for three years makes it hard to increase teachers’ salaries, appoint new teachers and promote the old ones.
 
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated worldwide to appreciate teachers’ contributions to development.
