Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO in collaboration with the Catholic Organization for Development Aid or CORDAID trained 45 civil society members and media practitioners on oil industry in the country.

The one-day training on Friday under the theme: ‘making the oil industry a blessing to all the people of the Republic of South Sudan’ aimed at strengthening civil society and media outlets to understand the importance of oil, Bakhita Radio reported.

Deputy Petroleum and Mining minister Elizabeth James Bol said it was very important for stakeholders to understand oil sector operations as an economic backbone of the country.

She said the oil would help many communities in the country not only in oil producing areas.

Ms James said the main aim of the workshop was to make people understand oil industry in South Sudan.

She added that the workshop was to enhance effective coordination between civil society and the government.

The deputy minister said it was very vital for civil society organizations to work hand in hand with the government for smooth running of the oil industry.
