Western Bahr Ghazal health authorities announced that the state is polio free and that preventive and responsive measures were in place to counter any outbreak.
State Health Ministry Director-General James Ukelo Morjan said no polio case was registered, Voice of Hope reported.
He added that the declaration of outbreak prompted them to meet departments on Tuesday and raised their preparedness to respond to outbreak.
Dr Ukello disclosed that they were planning to hold more meetings with health international and local NGOs to prepare for a general campaign next month.
The Director-General called on health practitioners to immediately report any suspected case of polio to authorities for appropriate measures.
He added that the state lacks equipments for examining the disease making it difficult to confirm outbreak.
Dr Ukello explained that polio has three types of viruses and that the most dangerous ones are the first and the third, calling on families to report any case of fever.
The national government on Monday declared polio outbreak in Northern Bahr El Ghazal and Eastern Equatoria states.
