UNAMID URGES DARFUR PARTIES TO REMAIN COMMITTED TO PEACE

The UN-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur known as UNAMID urged all parties in the region to remain committed to the peace process and avoid any further fighting.

UNAMID chief, Ibrahim Gambari, asked Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and government leaders to remain committed to their engagement to the political process and implement the Framework Agreement they signed last February.

Mr. Gambari reminded all parties that the Darfur crisis can be solved only trough political negotiations.

The government of North Darfur imposed a curfew from 6PM to dawn in El Fasher town and its surroundings since Tuesday saying JEM forces plan to attack the town.

The area has been hit my public unrest protesting against an illegal investement scheme that went burst.
