Eastern Equatoria Education minister complained lack of budget in the last three years to boost education in the state.

Michael Lopuke Lotyam said education budget remained the same while enrolment increases making it difficult to employ more teachers, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said the number of schools continues to expand and more children are joining schools compared to the past years.

Mr Lopuke cited that no new appointment, promotion and increment of teachers’ salaries prompting teachers to leave their profession to look for better pay.

The minister said the state was trying its best to focus on quality teachers to improve education standard.

He said though austerity measures continue to bite the government, there is still hope that at the end of the year things might get better.

Mr Lopuke said there was need for more secondary schools and teachers in the state.

The minister made the remarks on Saturday in Magwi County during the graduation of 44 students from various Universities of South Sudan and East Africa.
