Daughters of Mary Immaculate or DMI society and Women Self Help Group in Juba on Saturday celebrated the World International Peace Day.

A priest of Salesian of Don Bosco said the celebration was to gather women to get a message of peace because they play important role in peace building, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said the message of world peace needs to be highlighted through education because it was time for holding pens because time for holding guns was over.

One of the DMI sisters explained that women need education to promote peace in the new nation.

She appealed to all citizens to promote girl child education to foster peace in the country.

A member of St Kizito Women group Mary Kiden urged the government to promote peace building activities to build lasting peace.

The International Peace Day was celebrated on September 21 under the theme ‘Education for Peace’.
