The renegade general that led a mutiny after he lost the race for Jongley Governor and went to the bush with over 100 soldiers is not a security threat and is cornered by SPLA troops.

Gen. George Athor Deng on Friday led a rebellion at a SPLA Delab Hill Barracks, near Malakal, stole some weapons and went to the bush with loyal soldiers and civilians.

He is demanding the removal of governor-elect Kuol Manyang Juuk who bit him at the polls and an amnesty for his soldiers.

Colonel Malaak Auyen Ajok, SPLA acting spokesperson, told SCR News that Gen. Athor has a small number of soldiers with him and does not pose a military threat to Malakal or another place.

He added that the mutinied force is cornered by SPLA troops.

Col. Malaak said that Gen. Athor has with him some 130 troops and the SPLA could have already dealt with the situation.

He added that it is up to the government to decide which course to take: to negotiate or to attack the rebellious force.

Col. Malaak said Gen. Athor is moving with civilian and uses them to delay an attack.

He warned of civilians casualties in case a military solution is taken.

Ten SPLA soldiers died during the mutiny and seven were injured.
