The Minister of Interior and Wildlife Conservation recovered 166 million South Sudanese Pounds from 16 thousand police ghost names.

Aleu Ayieny Aleu said the money was identified in the recent Comprehensive Institutional Needs Assessment.

He said the money was handed over to the council of ministers and would be used for construction, procurement of equipment and training to transform the police.

Mr Aleu appealed to prisons, courts and Finance and Economic Planning ministry to work for better government system.

He expressed fears that the recovered money might not be used for the purpose if the Finance ministry fails to understand the importance of police transformation.

The Comprehensive Institutional Needs Assessment indicated that 48 percent of the police are illiterate, 33 percent educated in English and 19 percent in Arabic language.
