The President of the Republic on Thursday expressed government’s commitment to assists flood victims in the country.
Salva Kiir Mayardit said government was deeply concern to the suffering on the national disaster and that the council of ministers took immediate action to mitigate the situation, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the government was also looking for long term solutions, pointing out that the taskforce was sent first to map out flood affected areas.
President Kiir said the council was aware that the taskforce report confirmed that over 37 thousand households were affected by floods.
The President said the government approved seven millions South Sudanese Pounds to support flood affected victims.
He thanked partners for rendering humanitarian help to flood affected people.
President Kiir called on the affected people to remain vigilant and cooperative while the rescue mitigation networks are doing their jobs.
The President said he met with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni and briefed him on the recent decision taken by the Interior ministry banning foreign boda-boda riders in the country.
He said President Museveni assured him that his people will not retaliate to South Sudanese.
Uganda legislators on Tuesday called for the expulsion of South Sudanese in their country in retaliation to what they termed harassment and killing of Ugandans in South Sudan.
The Ugandan government dismissed MPs’ call, saying the matter was already resolved between the two countries.
