SPLM CELEBRATES VICTORY IN WAU

The SPLM marked yesterday its election victory in Western Bahr el Ghazal State with a celebration at Wau stadium.

The local government declared a day of public holiday to allow the residents to attend the event, SCR News reporter said.

Ann Itto, SPLM deputy secretary general for the Southern presided the ceremony that was attended by the governor-elect, Riziq Zachariah, and Effesio Kon Uguak, former Caretaker Governor of the State, among other individualities.

The celebration was organized to thank the electorate for the support during the election.
All the speeches stressed the importance and the responsibilities that now the elected people have not to deceive the high expectations of voters.

The SPLM representatives listed the needs of the population, in terms of peace, services, security, health, education, clean water, transportation.

They also spoke of the challenges the country is going to face during the months leading to the referendum, especially in the fields of people’ education and awareness.

Citizens were called to keep united and to cooperate to prepare this important event.

Mr. Uguak, the former Caretaker Governor, said border security was a big concern.

He added that Western Bahr el Ghazal authorities were holding talks with South Darfur counterparts and asked for a clear and urgent border demarcation.

The ceremony was attended by some 2000 people, less people than it was expected, due to rain.
