A member of the National Legislative Assembly on Wednesday declared his candidacy for the speaker-ship of the House.

Defence and Security Committee deputy chairperson Timothy Tot Chol told the press that when the post fell vacant he was interested to fill because of his expertise, knowledge and experience to administer the Assembly.

He said the parliament needs an individual representing national identity and sovereignty and a person who can initiate because the parliament is also development stimulator.

Mr Tot said a person is not qualified when holding another position such as the vice president or a minister.

He said integrity and criminal record are other preconditions considered.

So far five people declared candidacy for the National Assembly speaker.
