The Interior Minister pledged to transform the National Police Service and beef up security in the country.

Aleu Ayeny Aleu told the press on Tuesday in Juba that he wanted to fulfilPresident Salva Kiir’s directive that every minister must deliver services within six months, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said he was in Wau for police transformation and will ensure that security issues were addressed within the six-month period in the country.

Mr Aleu said Wau conference was a very brave decision of police to realize change and deliver services to citizens.

He attributed insecurity in South Sudan to so many elements including  SPLA, militias, elements inherited from Sudan, and other paramilitary organizations pushed to police without professional ethics.

Mr Aleu said there was need to harmonise all the elements by training and transforming them into professional police officers.

He added that his ministry will work hard to screen all police forces.

Mr Aleu revealed a plan to disarm and demobilize police officers.
