UN peacekeepers boost security, aid access in Pibor

UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS is stepping up military patrols in Pibor County, Jonglei State to allow families to return home and get humanitarian aid. 
 
UNMISS in a statement said it intensified patrols in Pibor and Gumuruk to help create safe environment for civilians to return home and access food distribution. 
 
The statement said the patrols are conducted daily both on foot and vehicles covering 18 kilometres. 
 
The ‘blue helmets’ locate vulnerable displaced civilians affected by recent fighting, the statement said. 
 
The intensive patrols supported by the government and the army is part of UNMISS mandate to protect civilians and improve security environment.
