South Sudan joins IGAD’s Rapid Response Fund

South Sudan became the fifth IGAD member state to benefit from the Rapid Response Fund a regional basket fund operated under the Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism or CEWARN.
 
CEWARN Director Richard Barno told CRN that since South Sudan became a member of Rapid Response Fund it accessed only one and half million US dollars.
 
He explained that the country can now apply for bids to get a maximum funding of 50 million US dollar for conflict prevention and capacity building.
 
Mr Barno added that a member with more projects can get more fund and benefits.
 
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ambassador Charles Manyang expressed happiness to see conflicts ravaged states at the launch of the Fund so that if their conflicts are identified they will use the funds.
 
He hopes that the conflict-affected states will benefit meaningfully from the funds.
 
Peace and Reconciliation Commission Chairperson Chuol Rambang they will provide quick application techniques in order for states to access the funds.
 
He explained that quick application and response will be the system in arresting conflicts from escalation.
 
The Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism is Inter-governmental Authority on Development or IGAD’s specialized unit for conflict prevention and management.
