Rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) suspended yesterday its participation in the Darfur peace process that is taking place in Doha, the Qatari capital.

SAF and JEM forces have clashed for more than forty times in Darfur since the Darfur rebels signed a framework agreement with the government in Doha, at the end of February.

JEM spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Adam said in a statement said the movement decided to freeze peace talks with Khartoum.

Mr. Hussein said the decision was taken following continuous aerial and ground assaults on JEM forces by SAF.

The Sudanese army confirmed the clashes and accused JEM of breaking the deal.
