Heavy rains and lack of drugs in Abyei Civil Hospital remain major challenges to residents as cases of malaria and diarrhoea were sharply increasing.

Abyei resident Martin Mayok told Voice of Hope Radio in a telephone interview that movement of people and goods were now difficult because Agok area was cut off from Abyei town.

He disclosed that Warrap State Government and Official at South Sudanese Embassy in India donated more than 26 thousand books to 26 primary schools in Abyei.

Mr Mayok described the situation in the area as stable, relatively calm and ready for the referendum to start in November.

He called on the national government and development partners to exert more efforts to end the suffering of Abyei people.

WFP and other UN agencies are distributing humanitarian aids to returnees despite rainy season challenges.
