Eastern Equatoria Health minister condemned poor garbage disposal in Torit market.
Margaret Itto urged traders to be responsible and have proper system of garbage collection, Emmanuel Radio reported.
She suggested collecting garbage into bags instead of littering the town.
Dr Itto noted that the state will be best place for everyone to live in only if residents manage waste properly.
The minister said most of the diseases affecting people in South Sudan can only be prevented by keeping the environment clean.
Dr Itto expressed gratitude to the UNMISS, youths, South Sudan Red Cross and other organizations for taking part in cleaning Torit town.
The cleaning exercise was part of other activities the state Youth Union organized to mark World Youth Day.
Youth Union president Epone Emmanuel Lolimo disclosed that tree planting exercise starts on Sunday.
