UNMISS urges new cabinet to forge unity, human rights respect

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS called on the new cabinet to ensure national unity and respect for human rights in the country.
 
UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative Hilde Johnson in a statement said UNMISS observed that the lean government at least offers new opportunity to deliver basic priorities for the nation.
 
She reiterated UNMISS commitment to work closely with the new cabinet to combat corruption, transform the security sector and provide essential services to the citizens.
 
Ms Johnson added that in partnership with the government, they will protect civilians and strengthen core institutions that work to promote democracy and good governance.
 
She pointed out support for the constitutional review process to help free and fair elections in South Sudan.
