Polling officers in Lakes State were expecting to receive their pending dues today after a strike demanding the rest of their wages from the elections committee.

Kot Kuocnin Kuer is the chief returning officer fat Lakes State High Elections Committee.

He told Good News Radio that he had sent a message through the State Radio calling on all CEOs to report to his office in order to collect the pay for the various polling officers in the eight counties that form Lakes State.

The payment will bring an end to a row between National Elections Commission officials and polling staff in Lakes State.

The impatient polling officers stormed the premises of the State High Elections Committee, at Rumbek’s Palm Tree Hotel, holding the NEC staff hostage.

Mr. Kuocnin explained that the problem of payment for polling officers was an issue that affected the entire country because of the instalment system put in place by NEC.

Lakes State had over 2,700 polling officers working in 387 polling stations.
