Hundreds of faithful on Tuesday gathered at St Mary Cathedral Parish of Wau Catholic Diocese to pray for the souls of the fallen heroes and heroines.
Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration, Vicar-General Germano Bernard said it was time for South Sudanese to remember the fallen heroes and heroines who sacrifices their lives to save innocent civilians, Voice of Hope reported.
He described the Martyrs Day as very important to the people of South Sudan.
Fr Germano stressed on the need for collective prayers for the families of fallen comrades and support to their children.
He advised people to unite to develop the nation and to continue praying hard for the nation not to lose important people like Dr Garang De Mabior.
The Acting State Governor Moris Yel Akol said the fallen heroes offered their lives for the freedom of South Sudan.
He urged the people of Western Bahr El Ghazal in particular and South Sudan in general to unite, love one another, work hard and educate the young generation.
