Western Bahr El Ghazal Social Development minister on Tuesday recommended a general convention for the State Islamic Council to elect a new leadership amidst alleged constitutional and financial malpractices.

Arkangelo Anyar Anyar wrote to the National Islamic Council Secretary-General recommending an urgent convention after the end of Ramadan, Voice of Hope reported.

He explained that the State Council Constitution says the chairman vacancy was to be filled through elections within 30 days.

The current chairman, Mohammed Isaa, was the acting head of the council for two years after the death of the former chairman.

Minister Anyar said he directed the technical committee and the Audit Chamber to audit the Council’s finances based on the legal committee’s report.

The Minister congratulated the Muslim community of South Sudan on the holy month of Ramadan wishing them peace and unity.
