The Pope’s representative in South Sudan, Sudan and Eritrea announced that he got a new assignment from the Vatican’s diplomatic services.
Archbishop Leo Bocardi wrote a letter to the heads of the dioceses in South Sudan, Sudan and Eritrea informing that his mission in the region is nearing its end.
He added that the Vatican’s Secretariat of State announced his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio to Iran on July 11.
Archbishop Boccardi completed a six-year term in Khartoum.
He said he was happy he contributed to the strengthening of the relations with the Holy See.
Archbishop Boccardi asked for forgiveness for some personal limitations that ‘may have constrained the efficacy’ of his assignment.
He added that he would be following ‘developments in South Sudan, Sudan and Eritrea, because ‚Ķ one’s first love can never be forgotten!’
